Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shifts focus to red-ball cricket

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named East Zone vice-captain for the Duleep Trophy. The 15-year-old just scored his first international fifty against Zimbabwe, and selectors liked the way he handled himself.

Matthew Hayden says the teenager has the temperament for Test cricket. He pointed to the way Sooryavanshi walked into the IPL at his age and stood up to it, treating that as proof he can handle longer formats too.

In IPL 2026 with Rajasthan Royals, he made 776 runs at 237.30, hitting a hundred and five fifties. He collected the Orange Cap, MVP, Emerging Player, Super Striker and Super Sixes awards.
