Bihar names 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as T20 captain

Bihar has named 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, replacing the injured Sakibul Gani.

The Bihar Cricket Association has appointed 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as captain for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Coach Manish Ojha backed the call, citing Sooryavanshi's maturity and rapid climb through domestic and international cricket. He replaces the injured Sakibul Gani and will lead a 17-member squad in the tournament beginning November 14 in Indore.

Suraj Kashyap takes vice-captain for the opening two matches. This is the first time Bihar has handed senior domestic T20 captaincy to a player this young. Sooryavanshi already has IPL and India T20I experience—credentials officials believe will steady him as skipper.

The move signals a shift among state boards toward youth in leadership roles. Other second-tier associations are watching closely, with similar captaincy experiments likely for the 2026-27 domestic season.
