Venkatesh Iyer undergoes shoulder surgery in London

Venkatesh Iyer had surgery on a ruptured right-shoulder muscle and faces months of rehabilitation.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer underwent successful surgery on a right-shoulder pectoralis major rupture at The Wellington Hospital on Thursday. A Kirschner wire was inserted during the procedure and will be removed in the coming weeks. Iyer confirmed the operation on social media and asked fans to keep him in their prayers.

The 2026 IPL winner will begin several months of rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence before attempting a return to domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh. His injury has already ruled him out of the remainder of the current domestic season. Iyer last played competitive cricket in the Madhya Pradesh League T20 in June, where he scored an unbeaten 87 off 42 balls.

Iyer joined RCB for ₹7 crore ahead of IPL 2026 and became a key Impact Player after early limited opportunities. He scored 73 off 40 balls against Punjab Kings and featured in the title-winning final against Gujarat Titans.
