Wasim Jaffer urges Yashasvi Jaiswal to focus on batting

Wasim Jaffer said Jaiswal's attempt to learn wicket-keeping at 24 is unrealistic and urged him to focus on batting ahead of the New Zealand tour.

Wasim Jaffer said Yashasvi Jaiswal's decision to take up wicket-keeping at the age of 24 is unrealistic because the skill cannot be developed quickly without a foundation from childhood. Jaffer said Jaiswal is getting desperate to break into India's white-ball teams.

Mumbai captain Siddhesh Lad said Jaiswal is trying hard to polish his wicket-keeping skills and wants to keep wickets for Mumbai or India in the future. Jaffer said the role is very demanding and there is no place for Jaiswal behind the stumps in white-ball cricket with Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant already established.

Jaiswal is expected to play only the first Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai before travelling to New Zealand for India A matches ahead of the Test series.
