Will Jacks took career-best five for 22 in first ODI

Jacks returned from emergency surgery to take five wickets and score an unbeaten 46 in England's 89-run win over Sri Lanka.

Will Jacks claimed five for 22 and scored 46 not out as England beat Sri Lanka by 89 runs in the first ODI at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. The 27-year-old had emergency appendix surgery last month. He returned early from a four-week recovery period to captain the Lions against Sri Lanka. Jacks said the T20 series helped him regain confidence before bowling longer spells in ODIs. His figures are the second-best by an England spinner in the format. Harry Brook said Jacks has grown into his middle-order role since moving from the top of the order 18 months ago.
