Zaheer Khan: Replacing Fleming carries huge responsibility at CSK

Zaheer Khan said replacing Stephen Fleming at Chennai Super Kings carries huge responsibility and that the former coach's consistency and camaraderie with MS Dhoni were special. The former India fast bowler was appointed head coach on a one-year contract earlier this week after Fleming stepped down following three playoff exits.

Zaheer previously served as Mumbai Indians' director of cricket operations and as Lucknow Super Giants mentor. In his first comments after joining, he said the onboarding process was straightforward in typical CSK fashion after a conversation with owners and CEO. He noted that Dhoni has been a great force in shaping the team's direction.

A lot of processes are already in place at the settled franchise. Zaheer is expected to attend the IPL 2027 mini-auction in December as the five-time champions look to rebuild after finishing eighth in IPL 2026.
