Australia reached 330 for four at stumps on day two of the third Test at Newlands, leading South Africa by one run. Josh Inglis remained unbeaten on 85 and Alex Carey was not out on 51 after adding an unbroken 145-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

South Africa were bowled out for 329 on day one. Marques Ackerman scored 95 and Aiden Markram made 78. Mitchell Starc took six for 72, including his final four wickets in six balls with the second new ball.

Steve Smith was ruled out with a neck injury. South Africa replaced the injured Anrich Nortje with Gerald Coetzee. Pat Cummins captains Australia while Temba Bavuma leads South Africa.

CricHubb Take

Starc's late burst with the second new ball changed the innings shape. Without those four wickets in six balls, South Africa might have posted a total that forces Australia to play catch-up rather than protect a narrow lead.
