Australia reached 330 for four at stumps on day two of the third Test at Newlands, taking a one-run lead after South Africa posted 329. Josh Inglis remained unbeaten on 85 and Alex Carey on 51, adding an unbroken 145 for the sixth wicket.

Mitchell Starc took six for 72 on day one, including four wickets in six balls late in the innings. Marques Ackerman made 95 and Aiden Markram scored 78 for South Africa. Steve Smith was ruled out with a neck injury, and Australia made four changes to their XI.

Marco Jansen claimed his 100th Test wicket and replaced Anrich Nortje in the South Africa side. He also moved to the top of the ICC Test bowling and all-rounder rankings, while Ravindra Jadeja dropped to second in the all-rounder list.

CricHubb Take

The narrow lead means the third Test will likely be decided by which attack can exploit the wearing surface first rather than by a large first-innings advantage.
