Gautam Gambhir explains why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi must wait for T20I chances

Gambhir told Sooryavanshi that continuity with Samson and Abhishek Sharma takes priority over form.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir said he personally told 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi that he will have to wait for opportunities because Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma have performed consistently as openers. Gambhir said selection is not decided by social media pressure. He added that dropping established players after three or four failures would ignore the impact they have created over the past two years. Sooryavanshi opened in the Asian Games final but has not played in India's recent bilateral T20I series. Samson said the gold medal win did not come on a platter and credited the experienced squad for managing energy during a rain-disrupted tournament.

Gambhir's public explanation frames selection as a contract between the dressing room and its proven performers, not a weekly audition for the next prodigy.
