Cheteshwar Pujara backs Sanju Samson over Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as Abhishek Sharma's opening partner

Pujara said Samson should open with Abhishek Sharma because the experienced batter is at his peak and still has years left at the top level.

Former India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara feels Sanju Samson should be the preferred option to open the innings for India with Abhishek Sharma. Pujara said Samson is an experienced player who has won a World Cup and is at his peak.

The former Test cricketer said Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will get opportunities through injuries and should learn from being with the squad even if not in the playing XI. India recently fielded Samson, Sooryavanshi and Abhishek together at the Asian Games but that required pushing Ishan Kishan to No 5.

Pujara said Sooryavanshi will have to wait for his opportunity as India play a lot of T20 matches throughout the year.

CricHubb Take

Pujara's preference for experience over raw talent at the top of the order reflects a broader selection tension between immediate results and long-term succession planning.
