Abhishek Sharma 53 runs away from Suryakumar Yadav's T20I record

Abhishek Sharma could eclipse Suryakumar Yadav's record for fastest to 2000 T20I runs during Friday's match in Ranchi.

Abhishek Sharma needs 53 runs to reach 2000 T20I runs and could break Suryakumar Yadav's record for the fewest balls to the milestone. Yadav reached the mark in 1164 balls, and Sharma has 1947 runs from 997 deliveries.

The 22-year-old left-hander has played 63 T20Is since his debut in 2024 and maintains a strike rate of 195.29. He has three centuries and 135 sixes in the format. Sharma has faced West Indies twice before, scoring 10 and 21.

India retained the same XI for the second T20I in Ranchi after an eight-wicket win in the opener. West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and opted to bowl first, citing the dew factor at the JSCA International Stadium.

CricHubb Take

The record chase adds narrative weight to a series that India have already dominated, but the real test will be whether Sharma can maintain his strike rate under pressure.
