Shahbaz Ahmed scored an unbeaten century from number seven and Sudip Gharami made 146 as East Zone reached 355 for six on day one of their Duleep Trophy quarter-final against North East Zone. The pair added 150 for the sixth wicket after early wickets left East Zone struggling. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made eight off six balls on debut, while Ishan Kishan and Abhimanyu Easwaran also fell cheaply. Shahbaz completed his hundred in 137 balls with nine fours and two sixes. East Zone will resume on day two with two wickets remaining.

CricHubb Take

The middle-order recovery masks a top-order problem. Unless the early wickets are addressed, East Zone risk similar collapses in knockout matches where one innings defines progression.
