Siddhesh Lad replaces Shardul Thakur as Mumbai captain for Ranji Trophy
Siddhesh Lad appointed Mumbai captain for Ranji Trophy; Shardul Thakur steps aside for workload management.
Siddhesh Lad will captain Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy next season, taking over from Shardul Thakur. Lad scored the most runs for the side last year, so the move hands him the job he earned on the field.
Thakur steps aside to keep his workload in check across formats. Suryakumar Yadav or Shreyas Iyer will lead Mumbai in white-ball cricket depending on their availability.
Lad said the captaincy is a matter of pride for him. Mumbai aim to end their title drought under the new leadership structure for the 2026-27 season.

By handing the Ranji captaincy to Lad while keeping white-ball leadership options open, Mumbai are separating red-ball development from limited-overs workload management, a model other state sides may follow.
