Sherfane Rutherford given out caught behind despite visible gap between bat and ball

Sherfane Rutherford was ruled out caught behind despite a visible gap between bat and ball, prompting criticism from former players and fans.

Sherfane Rutherford was given out caught behind off Naman Dhir in the third ODI while West Indies chased 352. TV umpire Sharfuddoula upheld the on-field call after Snicko showed a spike, even though replays suggested the noise came from the bat clipping the back pad. Rutherford needed Shai Hope to talk him off the field.

The wicket fell just as Rutherford and Hope were building a partnership. Rutherford had made 67 and put on 56 for the third wicket. Aakash Chopra posted that the spike was bat on pad and that Rutherford was not out.

West Indies were 273 for four after 41 overs when the report came in, still needing 79 from 54 balls. They added just 18 runs in the next three overs before Keemo Paul and Hope steadied things.

CricHubb Take

With the series already decided, the decision puts pressure on the ICC to clarify how Snicko spikes are weighed against clear visual evidence when the two conflict.
