India head coach Gautam Gambhir said only the openers' positions are fixed in T20 cricket and the rest of the batting order will remain flexible. Gambhir defended the decision to promote Shivam Dube to number four in the second T20I against West Indies in Ranchi.

Dube scored 7 off 10 balls before being dismissed by Roston Chase. Gambhir said India has used Dube in that position for a long time, including during the World Cup. He added that international cricket brings mixed outcomes and the team must keep improving.

West Indies chased down India's 249 for 6 with six wickets and nine balls to spare. The third T20I is scheduled for Indore on 11 October.

The public commitment to flexibility reduces the chance of any single player feeling secure in the middle order, which may increase pressure on individuals to perform immediately.
