Shreyas Iyer scored his first T20I century as India beat West Indies by eight wickets in the opening match of the five-match series in Lucknow on Tuesday. The captain remained unbeaten on 102 off 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and six sixes, as India chased down 172 with 32 balls to spare.
Iyer reached his hundred with a straight six off Roston Chase and became the first Indian captain to score a T20I century while chasing. Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 37 as the pair added an unbroken 137 for the third wicket.
Debutant Naman Dhir took 3 for 31 to restrict West Indies to 171, with Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford scoring half-centuries. Iyer jumped 18 places to seventh in the ICC T20I batting rankings after the innings.
