Shreyas Iyer said 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stays quiet off the field but turns destructive once he steps on it. The India T20I captain praised the teenager's temperament and added that his chance will come even with established openers holding their spots.

Sooryavanshi racked up 776 runs in IPL 2026 and earned a senior call-up. He impressed in the Asian Games semi-final with 38 but fell early in the gold medal match against Pakistan. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has told the youngster he must wait.

Iyer said he talks to Sooryavanshi about life outside cricket because everyone else only wants to discuss his batting. The teenager's time will come, Iyer added, and when it does he will dominate Indian cricket.

The real test isn't Sooryavanshi's talent—it's whether the selectors can resist the temptation to rush him into a lineup that already has openers and still give him the extended run he needs to settle.
