Mohammad Kaif urges Shreyas Iyer to retain Abhishek-Sharma-Samson combination

Mohammad Kaif said Shreyas Iyer should retain the Abhishek Sharma-Vaibhav Suryavanshi-Sanju Samson combination for the West Indies T20Is.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif said Shreyas Iyer should decide whether to play Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sanju Samson together in the T20I series against West Indies. Kaif said the combination worked in the Asian Games semi-final against Sri Lanka and should be retained.

Kaif said Suryavanshi does not need grooming and should not be left out. He suggested Abhishek and Samson open with Suryavanshi at number three to maintain a left-right combination. Kaif added that on flat pitches India can play an extra bowler instead of extra batting depth.

The five-match T20I series against West Indies begins on October 6. India will play Pakistan in the Asian Games gold medal match on October 3.

Kaif's intervention frames the selection debate as a captain's call rather than a coach's directive, testing Iyer's authority in his first series in charge.
