Iyer predicts Sooryavanshi will dominate when his chance arrives
Iyer praised Sooryavanshi's temperament and predicted the 15-year-old will dominate Indian cricket when given regular chances.
Shreyas Iyer said 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi remains calm off the field but becomes destructive once he bats. The India T20I captain spoke ahead of the West Indies T20I series. Sooryavanshi has played eight T20Is since his debut against England in July and scored two half-centuries.
Iyer said he speaks with the youngster about life outside cricket because everyone else discusses batting. He described Sooryavanshi as a charming presence in the dressing room whose time will come. The captain added that established openers deserve their place and that Sooryavanshi will dominate when selected regularly.
Sooryavanshi scored 38 in the Asian Games semi-final against Sri Lanka but was dismissed early in the gold medal match against Pakistan. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has indicated the left-hander must wait for consistent opportunities.

Iyer's comments frame Sooryavanshi's development as a long-term project rather than an immediate selection debate. The approach protects the teenager from short-term pressure while the team retains its preferred opening pair.
