Brook's 114-ball double ton broke Gill's record and powered England to 429 for four before Sri Lanka's last-ball win.

Harry Brook scored the fastest double century in ODI history, reaching 200 in 114 balls against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on Thursday. The England captain finished with 202 off 116 balls, including 21 fours and 10 sixes, before being dismissed on the final delivery. He surpassed Shubman Gill's previous record of 117 balls set against West Indies last month.

Brook became the first England batter to score an ODI double century, eclipsing Ben Stokes' previous national best of 182. He added 159 with Joe Root and 185 with Will Jacks, who finished unbeaten on 66 from 30 balls, helping England reach 429 for four.

Sri Lanka chased 430 to win by two wickets off the final ball. The result leaves England with two defeats from two matches and their hopes of reaching the Lahore final in jeopardy.

CricHubb Take

Brook's record came in a losing cause. The innings confirms his status as England's premier white-ball batter but also exposes how dependent the side remains on one individual's brilliance.
