Shubman Gill's contrasting ODI innings show two sides of his game

Gill demonstrated he can play both the anchor and the aggressor roles depending on match situations and team needs.

Shubman Gill produced contrasting ODI innings against West Indies within three days, scoring 110 off 108 balls in Thiruvananthapuram and 223 not out off 133 balls in Guwahati. The first innings was marked by patience and control, while the second showcased controlled aggression in a 406-run chase.

In Thiruvananthapuram, Gill helped set the platform before Virat Kohli finished unbeaten on 139. In Guwahati, Rohit Sharma's 101 off 75 balls gave Gill the platform to accelerate, reaching his hundred in 62 balls and his double century in 117 balls, the fastest ODI double century by an Indian.

Gill's movements remained economical in both innings. The distinction lies in purpose: absorbing the game in one match and taking control of it in the other.

CricHubb Take

Gill's ability to switch between restraint and acceleration within the same series suggests he is learning when to be the architect and when to be the destroyer in ODI chases.
