Uday Saharan unbeaten on 106 as Punjab reach 269 for 4
Uday Saharan's unbeaten century rescued Punjab after Shubman Gill fell for 1 on his Ranji return against Chhattisgarh.
Punjab captain Uday Saharan scored an unbeaten 106 off 179 balls to guide his side to 269 for 4 on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match against Chhattisgarh at PCA International Cricket Stadium. Saharan struck 13 boundaries in his third first-class century.
India captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 1 in his first Ranji appearance of the season, bowled by left-arm spinner Ajay Mandal. Vihaan Malhotra made 40 and Prabhsimran Singh scored 62 in a 130-run fourth-wicket stand with Saharan before falling to Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
Wicketkeeper Salil Arora remained unbeaten on 38 at stumps. Jadeja took 2 for 92 and Mandal finished with 2 for 60 as Chhattisgarh's spinners bowled 51 overs on the opening day.

The pitch at PCA International has turned enough for two spinners to claim four wickets between them in 51 overs, so Punjab's middle order will have to handle spin before they think about pushing for a result.
