Sri Lanka completed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history to beat England by two wickets in the tri-series match in Rawalpindi. England posted 429 for 4 after Harry Brook scored 202 off 116 balls, the fastest double-century in the format by an Englishman, but Sri Lanka reached the target with one ball to spare.

Pavan Rathnayake scored 130 and Dasun Shanaka made 97 as Sri Lanka recovered from 24 for 2. Janith Liyanage hit a 22-ball fifty to leave the target at eight runs from the final over, then struck the winning six off the penultimate delivery after Josh Tongue took two wickets in two balls.

The victory gives Sri Lanka their first points in the tri-series and keeps alive their hopes of reaching the final on October 31. England have now lost two matches in succession and trail Pakistan in the standings.

CricHubb Take

England's inability to defend 429 exposes a pattern: their batting depth is unmatched, yet their death bowling and fielding execution remain the weakest link in high-scoring games.
