Tamil Nadu left-arm spinner Ajith Ram said his 19-month injury layoff helped him focus strictly on the controllables after returning to first-class cricket against Uttarakhand. The 28-year-old claimed four wickets in the second innings of his comeback match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Ram sustained a knee injury during the 2025 TNPL and missed the entire 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. He said the first three months were particularly difficult as he could barely sleep, but accepting the situation shifted his focus to making a comeback. Ram has taken 98 wickets in 19 first-class matches at an average of 17.35.

The spinner will play against Railways on Monday. He said milestones like reaching 100 wickets do not excite him and his goal remains to contribute meaningfully to the team.

Ram's comments show how extended time away from the game can reset priorities for experienced players. His willingness to accept the layoff rather than fight it allowed him to return with clearer objectives about his role in the side.
