Wasim Jaffer says Virat Kohli felt bitter about Agarkar treatment
Wasim Jaffer claimed Virat Kohli felt bitter about his treatment under Ajit Agarkar and could have played more Test cricket.
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer said Virat Kohli was unhappy with how he was treated during Ajit Agarkar's tenure as chief selector. Jaffer suggested the issue may have contributed to Kohli's decision to retire from Test cricket in May 2025 ahead of India's tour of England.
Jaffer said Kohli had been preparing for the England series and felt he could have continued playing red-ball cricket. He rated Agarkar's three-year stint 7 out of 10, crediting success in white-ball cricket while questioning how certain players were handled, including the captaincy changes involving Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
Agarkar's tenure ended earlier this month, with Pragyan Ojha appointed as interim chief selector. Jaffer acknowledged Agarkar's willingness to make difficult decisions during a period when India won two World Cups, the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy.
