Chris Woakes said he wished he had faced at least one ball during England's six-run defeat to India at The Oval. Woakes walked out to bat with a dislocated shoulder in a sling when England needed 17 more runs to win.

He remained unbeaten on zero after Gus Atkinson fell to Mohammed Siraj. Woakes described feeling nervous about batting with one arm against India's seamers and said the moment combined pride with sadness at leaving the team handicapped.

England had reduced the target to seven runs when Atkinson was dismissed.
