Shubman Gill flags fielding and death bowling as World Cup concerns
Shubman Gill identified fielding and death bowling as areas India must fix before the 2027 World Cup.
India captain Shubman Gill said fielding and death bowling need improvement ahead of the 2027 World Cup after West Indies chased 352 in the third ODI at Mullanpur. India dropped around seven catches during the series and conceded more than 290 runs in each match. Gill said the side is unclear whether it is attacking or defending in the death overs.
Gill noted that India have been unfortunate not to have their best bowling attack available due to injuries and scheduling. He said it is a good opportunity for other players to gain experience. Mohammed Siraj was the only experienced pacer in the squad.
India will play eight more ODIs this year, including five against New Zealand starting in October.

Gill's admission that the team lacks clarity in death bowling suggests the problem is tactical rather than just personnel, which means the next series will test whether the coaching staff can install a clear plan before the World Cup cycle tightens.
