Anshul Kamboj returns to India's Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand while Auqib Nabi is again left out. The Haryana seamer features in the 16-member group after making his debut against England in July 2025 and then being dropped.

Nabi's 60 wickets helped Jammu and Kashmir claim their first Ranji Trophy title in the 2025-26 season, and he was named Player of the Tournament. Still, he is not part of the senior Test party and must seek further opportunities via India A and the upcoming ODI series.

Kamboj collected six wickets in two innings for Haryana against Himachal Pradesh in Rohtak and took wickets for Australia A plus in zonal matches. His ODI debut against West Indies on October 3 brought no success.

CricHubb Take

The selection committee's preference for Kamboj over Nabi suggests they value previous international exposure and performances against stronger opposition more than pure domestic wicket tallies. This approach may discourage players from smaller states who lack regular opportunities against high-quality batting line-ups.
