Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the opening Test against Australia with a side strain. Shoriful Islam and Litton Das will also miss the match but could return for the second Test after rehabilitation. The first Test begins in Perth on 27 June.

Bangladesh have called up uncapped seamer Tanvir Islam as cover. Rana had been expected to lead the pace attack after taking 17 wickets in the preceding home series against England. The injury leaves Bangladesh without their most reliable overseas performer this year.

Team management said the focus now shifts to managing workloads for the remaining quicks. Australia have named an unchanged squad from their recent home series against Sri Lanka.

CricHubb Take

Rana's absence removes Bangladesh's most threatening bowler on bouncy pitches, giving Australia an early advantage before the tourists can integrate replacements into their plans.
