Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India captain across all formats
Harmanpreet Kaur resigns as India captain after 10 years, citing completion of her duty and team readiness.
Harmanpreet Kaur announced on Tuesday that she has stepped down as captain of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats. The 37-year-old made the decision after a BCCI review meeting in Guwahati. She had led India in 51 ODIs, 155 T20Is and five Tests.
Harmanpreet guided India to its first ODI World Cup title in 2025 and two consecutive Asian Games gold medals. Her record includes 92 T20I wins and three Asia Cup titles. She confirmed she will remain available for selection as a player.
The BCCI has not named a successor yet. Mandhana is the frontrunner for the role. The review meeting was attended by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, coach Amol Muzumdar and Mandhana.

Her exit removes the last direct link between India's 2017 World Cup final side and the current squad, marking the cleanest generational break in a decade.
