Afghanistan climbed to seventh in the latest ICC Men's ODI team rankings after defeating Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the tri-series final in Sharjah on Friday. The team collected 94 points, one more than England, who dropped to eighth after a defeat against Sri Lanka. Afghanistan's result marked their all-time highest ranking, previously achieved in May 2025.

India remain at the top with 115 points, followed by New Zealand on 109, South Africa on 104, Pakistan on 103 and Australia on 102. Sri Lanka sit sixth. Afghanistan chased a target of 170 with Ibrahim Zadran unbeaten on 70 after Rashid Khan took 3 for 41 and two wickets each from Bilal Sami, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Mohammad Nabi.

The ICC has scheduled the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup in Pakistan from September 7 to October 1. India-Pakistan matches are expected to move to the UAE under the hybrid hosting model used since the 2025 Champions Trophy.
