Shai Hope scores unbeaten century as West Indies chase 250 against India
Shai Hope's unbeaten century guided West Indies to their highest successful T20I chase against India.
Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls as West Indies chased down 250 to beat India by six wickets in the second T20I at Ranchi on Friday. The West Indies captain became the second player to score a century in all three formats against India after Shane Watson. Hope reached his hundred in 45 balls, equalling the record for the fastest T20I century against India.
India had posted 249 for five with Sanju Samson making 82 off 41 balls. West Indies needed 72 from the last 10 overs and completed the chase with Hope and Rovman Powell providing the late acceleration. The visitors levelled the five-match series at 1-1.
Hope said Roston Chase's economical spell with the ball proved game-changing in restricting India's scoring rate during the middle overs. The West Indies captain was named player of the match for his innings.
CricHubb Take
Hope's century shows that targeting specific bowlers and maintaining strike rotation can overcome high targets even when early wickets fall. The chase required calculated aggression rather than sustained power hitting throughout the innings.
