Bryce Jackson took 3 for 36 and fellow debutant Jake Scott claimed 4 for 35 as New South Wales reduced Tasmania to 9 for 241 on the opening day of the Sheffield Shield season in Sydney. Jackson moved from Western Australia after being unable to break into their Shield line-up despite leading their one-day wicket charts. Scott also scored an unbeaten 52 on his state debut in the One-Day Cup earlier this season.

NSW's decision to blood two new pacers on the opening day shows the state is prepared to rebuild its attack even if it means short-term results suffer.
