Abhishek Nayar says Shreyas Iyer comparison to Suryakumar Yadav is out of the way
Abhishek Nayar said the comparison between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav no longer holds because Iyer has captained far more away fixtures.
Former India cricketer Abhishek Nayar said the comparison between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav is out of the way ahead of India's five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Nayar said India played most of its series at home under Suryakumar, while Iyer has already captained away in England, Zimbabwe and Japan. He added that a series win in New Zealand would give Iyer the respect that comes with winning abroad.
Nayar spoke on JioHotstar's Out or Not Out programme before the first T20I in Christchurch on Thursday. He noted that six of Iyer's eight losses as captain have come overseas, while Suryakumar holds a 76.92 per cent win rate across 52 matches. Iyer has won 11 of 21 completed matches as T20I captain.
India begin the series with an unchanged squad that includes Ishan Kishan, who needs 46 runs to reach 2,000 T20I runs. The teams will play five T20Is followed by five ODIs and two Tests.

Iyer's overseas record will now decide whether he earns the same authority Suryakumar built at home.
