Brendan Taylor became Zimbabwe's all-time leading ODI run-scorer during the opening match of a tri-series against Bangladesh in Harare. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 81 off 101 deliveries to move past Andy Flower's previous record of 6,786 ODI runs. Taylor's career tally reached 6,837 runs, placing him 51 runs ahead of Flower.

Taylor's innings formed part of a 150-run partnership with Craig Ervine, who scored 93, as Zimbabwe posted 271. The pair's stand helped the hosts secure a 99-run victory after Brad Evans took four wickets to bowl Bangladesh out for 172. Ervine was named Player of the Match.

Taylor had received a three-and-a-half-year ban from the ICC in January 2022 for failing to disclose approaches from individuals involved in corruption and for obstructing an investigation. He accepted the charges and the resulting sanction. The milestone strengthens his legacy as one of Zimbabwe's most accomplished batters despite the disciplinary episode.

CricHubb Take

Taylor's achievement after a lengthy ban shows how a player's statistical legacy can continue even when their career faces interruption. The milestone also highlights Zimbabwe's reliance on experienced players to anchor innings in bilateral and tri-series contests.
