Ian Higgins, co-host of The Grade Cricketer podcast, was taken to hospital in Cape Town during day three of the third Test between Australia and South Africa. He suffered a severe bout of viral gastroenteritis that required paramedic assistance and an ambulance transfer from Newlands.

Higgins received treatment at Kingsway Hospital and was later discharged. The medical incident occurred while Australia were in a position to win the series 2-1.

South Africa led by 40 runs with six second-innings wickets remaining when play ended on day three. Josh Inglis scored his second Test century while Nathan Lyon dismissed South Africa captain Temba Bavuma late in the day.
