The Indian Premier League mini-auction will take place in Goa on December 16, according to a report in Cricinfo published on Monday. The event returns to India after three years, with the last domestic auction held in Kochi in 2022 ahead of the 2023 season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has yet to make an official announcement.

The December 16 date clashes with the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. Sri Lanka's tour comprises three ODIs starting in Delhi on December 13 and three T20Is from December 22 to 27. The auction will be the last mini-auction before a mega auction for the 2028 season, with franchises already asked to submit retention lists.

Rishabh Pant's trade back to Delhi Capitals for Rs 15 crore remains the biggest deal so far, with Kuldeep Yadav moving the other way to Lucknow Super Giants at his existing Rs 13.50 crore fee. The trade window closes a week before the auction.

The December 16 date forces the BCCI to choose between auction logistics and national team scheduling, and whichever fixture moves will signal which event carries more weight for Indian cricket.
