India vice-captain Shafali Verma has been reprimanded by the ICC and given one demerit point for throwing the ball in frustration during the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Raipur. The incident came in the 12th over when she dropped a catch off Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano. India won by nine wickets.

Third umpire Anna Harris, fourth umpire Janani Narayanan and on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Gayathri Venugopalan charged her under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for abuse of equipment. Shafali accepted the charge without a hearing and received the minimum sanction for a Level 1 offence.

She now carries one demerit point. Four or more in the next 24 months would trigger a suspension. The 22-year-old remains central to India's plans for the rest of the series.

The real question is whether this demerit point changes how the selectors handle Shafali's temperament when India tour tougher venues later in the year.
