Smriti Mandhana named India captain across all formats
Mandhana takes over from Harmanpreet Kaur, who led India to their maiden 50-over World Cup title and two Asian Games golds.
Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as India captain in all three formats, and Smriti Mandhana was named her successor. Harmanpreet led India to their first 50-over World Cup title in 2025 and to back-to-back Asian Games gold.
Mandhana has already captained India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs. The 30-year-old recently became the leading run-scorer in women's international cricket and holds the record for most centuries across formats with 18.
Harmanpreet said the decision was difficult but that she leaves with peace because she believes the team is in a good place. India begin a multi-format tour of New Zealand later this month.

Mandhana's elevation completes a deliberate shift toward younger leadership that began when Mithali Raj retired, positioning India to build around a core that peaks in 2028-29.
