Cameron Green ruled out of first Test against South Africa

Cameron Green will miss the first Test against South Africa after sustaining an abdominal strain during the third ODI.

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green will miss the first Test against South Africa starting on Friday in Durban. He sustained an abdominal strain during the third ODI in Potchefstroom last week.

Coach Andrew McDonald said Green remains in the squad and could feature later in the series as a batter only. The chances of Green bowling in the remaining two Tests are considered too high risk given recent shoulder issues.

Green scored a century in Australia's 1-1 Test series against Bangladesh in August. Sam Harper and Nic Maddinson were added to the squad last week as cover.

CricHubb Take

Green's absence removes Australia's most versatile middle-order option and forces a choice between experience and potential debutants.
