Ojha may continue as interim chief selector after Agarkar exit
Parthiv Patel opted not to apply for the West Zone vacancy, raising the possibility that Pragyan Ojha will continue as interim chairman.
Ajit Agarkar's exit has left the national selection committee unsettled. The deadline for West Zone applications closed Wednesday, and Parthiv Patel — the name most expected to replace Agarkar — didn't apply.
The decision has prompted talk that VVS Laxman, head of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, may now have a bigger role in selection, while Pragyan Ojha stays on as interim chairman. With the ODI World Cup under a year away, the board must decide whether to keep the current setup or move on.
The BCCI has already shown flexibility on pay to attract experienced names. It has set aside Rs 19.35 crore for 2026-27, up Rs 2 crore from last year's Rs 3 crore overspend.

The real question isn't whether Ojha stays interim — it's whether the BCCI will eventually hand Laxman formal control or keep patching the committee together until after the 2027 cycle.
