Veda Krishnamurthy expects Indian keepers to draw bids at WPL auction
Veda Krishnamurthy told JioStar that limited keeper options and three teams needing replacements will drive bidding on October 28.
Veda Krishnamurthy said Indian wicket-keepers will be in demand when the WPL 2027 auction begins in Kochi on October 28. The former India batter noted that at least three teams need first-choice keepers and the pool of domestic options is limited. She singled out G Kamalini and Sophie Molineux as names likely to attract attention.
A total of 146 players will go under the hammer for 27 remaining slots. UP Warriorz have eight vacancies and Rs 3.75 crore to spend, while Mumbai Indians have six slots but only Rs 90 lakh remaining. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants each need fewer replacements after retaining most of their core.
The fifth season runs from January 14 to February 7. Four-time finalists Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz will seek their first title, while RCB and Mumbai Indians aim to extend their two titles each.
CricHubb Take
The shortage of proven Indian keepers gives teams with salary-cap space an edge, because the auction's thin pool of quality options will push prices higher than base valuations suggest.
