Pragyan Ojha has taken interim charge of India's selection panel after Ajit Agarkar's contract expired on October 4. Ojha, who has played the most Tests among current panel members with 24, was asked to lead proceedings during a selection meeting in Guwahati where Agarkar was absent.

The situation remains fluid, with Ojha emerging as a candidate to become the permanent chairman. The selectors are set to meet this week to finalise squads for the upcoming T20I, ODI and Test series against New Zealand.

Whoever is ultimately chosen as chief selector will face the task of picking India's 2027 World Cup squad, including decisions on Rohit Sharma's future and the balance of all-rounders and fast bowlers.

The change hands the panel's most experienced Test player the keys just as India prepares for a full home series against New Zealand and the 2027 World Cup build-up.
