Sri Lanka completed the second-highest successful chase in ODI history on Thursday, defeating England by two wickets in Rawalpindi. Harry Brook scored the fastest double-hundred in ODI history with 202 off 116 balls, but Sri Lanka replied with Pavan Rathnayake's 130 and half-centuries from Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka before Janith Liyanage struck the winning six.

England posted 429 for four after Brook added 185 runs with Will Jacks in the final 10 overs. Sri Lanka slipped to 24 for two before the 166-run stand between Fernando and Rathnayake revived their chase. Josh Tongue removed Dunith Wellalage and Eshan Malinga in the final over, yet Liyanage sealed victory with one ball remaining.

The result gives Sri Lanka their first points in the tri-series and leaves England needing a win in their remaining matches to reach the final.
