Joburg Super Kings paid R2.9 million for 18-year-old South African all-rounder Jason Rowles at the SA20 2027 auction, making him the most expensive player of the sale. The left-arm spinner and middle-order batter has represented South Africa Under-19s and scored a double century in youth cricket.
Joburg Super Kings also signed Faf du Plessis for R2.7 million and West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard for R1.5 million. Blessing Muzarabani went for R500,000 and Andries Gous for R1 million, while Jamie Overton was added as a wildcard.
The franchise's squad now includes Faf du Plessis, Jason Rowles, Dayyaan Galiem, Kieron Pollard, Blessing Muzarabani, Andries Gous, Jamie Overton, Donovan Ferreira, Leus du Plooy, Rilee Rossouw and James Vince. Rowles's price reflected bidding interest from multiple franchises seeking long-term South African talent.
CricHubb Take
The R2.9 million paid for an 18-year-old shows how SA20 franchises are now treating youth as an investment category rather than a development risk. That changes the cost calculus for every other South African prospect who performs at U19 or U23 level.
