Shimron Hetmyer was run out for five runs in the sixth over of the first T20I against India in Lucknow on Tuesday. The dismissal followed a misfield by Axar Patel that deflected the ball toward cover. Shreyas Iyer collected the ball and threw to wicketkeeper Sanju Samson who broke the stumps.

Hetmyer had faced two deliveries and scored one boundary. The third umpire reviewed the dismissal and confirmed Hetmyer's bat was in the air when the stumps were broken. The West Indies batter appeared unhappy with the decision.

India had opted to bowl first after winning the toss. West Indies lost early wickets in the powerplay before Sherfane Rutherford and Shai Hope steadied the innings.

The run-out exposed West Indies' hesitation in the powerplay and gave India an early advantage on a pitch expected to slow down later.
