Harmanpreet Kaur focuses on batting after stepping down as captain

Harmanpreet Kaur produced her eighth ODI century and said she is happy to concentrate solely on batting after relinquishing the captaincy.

Harmanpreet Kaur said she is enjoying batting without the added responsibility of captaincy after leading India to a 121-run win in the second ODI against Zimbabwe. She scored an unbeaten century, her eighth in the format, and moved past Mithali Raj on India's list of leading ODI century-makers.

The former captain said she wants to accept the change and concentrate on assessing situations at the crease. She added that discussions with Pratika Rawal centred on respecting good balls and capitalising on loose deliveries.

Smriti Mandhana now leads the list with 14 ODI hundreds. Harmanpreet is second and said the focus remains on contributing according to the team's needs rather than leadership duties.

The timing matters: by removing the captaincy tag before the South Africa tour, the selectors have given themselves a clean slate to judge every player on output alone rather than on leadership status.
