Essex suspend Robin Das after rape charges
Essex suspended 24-year-old batter Robin Das after he was charged with two counts of rape.
Essex County Cricket Club confirmed that top-order batter Robin Das has been suspended after being charged with two counts of rape. The 24-year-old was arrested in August 2025 following reports of a woman being raped in Brixton in March 2024. Das is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on October 9. Essex stated that the incident took place outside club activities and that the club has remained in contact with the ECB, PCA and The Cricket Regulator. Das made his Essex debut in the Vitality Blast as an 18-year-old in September 2020, with his most recent appearance coming in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex on July 21.

Das's suspension leaves Essex short of batting options in limited-overs cricket just as the club's younger players are being blooded, and any prolonged absence could force a rethink of their white-ball squad plans for next summer.
