James Anderson set to retire after Lancashire withhold 2027 contract
Lancashire's refusal to renew Anderson's deal signals the end of his first-class career.
James Anderson's first-class career is expected to end after Lancashire decided not to offer him a contract for the 2027 season. The 44-year-old took 50 wickets for the county this summer at an average of 17.
Anderson holds the record for most Test wickets by a fast bowler with 704. He played 188 Tests, second only to Sachin Tendulkar's 200. Lancashire's decision ends his 23-year association with the club.
Anderson is set to make his retirement plans public soon and will not seek a first-class contract elsewhere.

Anderson's exit removes the last direct link between England's current Test attack and the 2010-2015 generation that dominated overseas.
