Tim David named for Tasmania in domestic 50-over push

The RCB batter returns to domestic 50-over cricket after three years away to strengthen his case for Australia's 2027 ODI World Cup squad.

Tim David has been selected by Tasmania for their domestic One-Day Cup matches as the 30-year-old seeks a place in Australia's 2027 ODI World Cup squad. He has not played a 50-over match since replacing Glenn Maxwell in a bilateral series before the 2023 World Cup.

Tasmania coach Jeff Vaughan said David has been eager to return to List A cricket and that the timing now aligns with his franchise commitments. David will bat in the middle order, likely around number six, and is expected to play a similar role to his T20 responsibilities in the closing overs.

David remains uncontracted with Cricket Australia. Tasmania's first match involving David is scheduled against Victoria on Saturday.

CricHubb Take

David's move shows that even established T20 players recognise the 50-over format still matters for World Cup selection. Without recent List A exposure, middle-order finishers risk being overlooked when Australia builds its squad for South Africa.
